Camping at the Ronald W Caspers Wilderness Park

We had to have a quick getaway before the spring of 2020 was over and gone; gosh time just flew by because of the quarantine! I made a quick reservation at the Live Oak Campground located in the Ronald W Caspers Wilderness Park right after it opened up again. We had visited this place a couple of times before and always enjoyed our stay here. Everything is clean and well-kept. No showers though but that’s ok. We have our own shower rig and both of us actually used it this time, which was great. Being able to take a shower after a day’s activities is such a huge difference maker and I highly recommend you consider that aspect when you go camping next time. Your significant other will definitely appreciate it lol.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take a lot of pictures on this trip because I wanted to relax and enjoy my time outdoors without interruptions. But I did make my first attempt at astrophotography, because I was kind of bored before going to bed, and got these two shots below. Not too bad I think, considering I’m a complete novice at this and also using a kit lens. I had so much fun taking and editing these photos and that’s what it’s all about isn’t it?

Just couldn’t focus without the moon. I like the subtlety of tree lines at the bottom.

Here, more contrast between the night sky and the trees on this ridgeline. Cool looking dead tree on the right.

One pleasant surprise here is the amount of toads you see at night. We weren’t noticing them until we heard them hopping around at night on grass fields. I mean we could hear them in the valley in which we were camping, but were totally ignorant of the fact that they venture out at night so actively; even to where humans are! Sadly, their numbers are in decline these days so they are keeping an eye on these cute fellas over in the park.

What’s that in your mouth there little fella?

It was definitely good luck having this guy stay in our campsite for a few minutes.

We’ll definitely check out more places here in the Ronald W Caspers Wilderness Park. They have cool campsites, hiking trails, horse ranches, and so much more. The biggest thing is it’s so close to where we live; the fact we don’t have to drive hours to enjoy nature like this is such a blessing. If you like the outdoors and live in or around the OC area, I suggest you check it out too!

Cheers.
